MAJA KOHEK

Chair

Maja Kohek is a medical anthropologist dedicated to exploring the intersection of traditional plant medicine, cultural heritage, and community well-being. Her research focuses on the knowledge and practices of indigenous and rural communities, with a particular focus on the therapeutic and cultural significance of psychoactive plants. While her primary interest has been in South American plants and ancestral healing practices, she is increasingly fascinated by the medicinal plants and fungi native to Europe. She keeps deepening her knowledge of the usage of local plants as food and medicine, and spends her free time researching sacred plants and their rites in the Balkans, doing enthusiastic gardening work and enjoying forest walks.
